My Bohemian Wedding: The Ring

People have been asking to see the ring, but it has been at the jewelers being resized since LAST Monday. Apparently, taking a ring from a size seven to a size four requires some special time and attention. I finally got it back yesterday. It was like seeing a long lost love. Not a moment too soon (if not lots of moments too late), because I'm going home for my Dad's birthday today, and need to show it off! Here it is....

Our First Ornament

A few weeks ago, I saw a fantastic post about making ornaments from the slice of trunk that they cut from the bottom of your Christmas tree. I can't find the post now, but how impressed I was. What a clever and creative way to make memorable ornament keepsakes! I couldn't wait to make my own! And what perfect timing. Keith and I just got engaged, this is our first year to have a place together, and we just got our first tree. I decided to incorporate the engagement into the design by painting my ring. I wrapped it and surprised him with it the night we decorated the tree. I absolutely love it, and can't wait to continue this tradition year after year.

All I Want For Christmas Is... Tech Gear

A girl can't live off of fashion alone, so I decided to add a few more fun items to my wishlist this year. I just moved into the mobile browsing age and got my first iPhone. Up till now, I've been a pretty basic girl when it comes to my phone, texting and calling only. However, I decided to give my phone a swirly the other night, which it did not seem to take too kindly to. Luckily I was available for an upgrade, and finally got an iPhone. Not the fanciest thing, it's a 3G S, but it's more than enough for me. There are so many fun gadgets and accessories to go along with this phone, I'm getting the feeling that I'm going to love it more and more. Here are some fun items that I've found...

I hope I've been good enough to get some of these goodies this year!

Holiday Touches Around My House

I feel like I'm falling behind on my holiday posts. I've been working on ornaments and decorating like a crazy person! I apologize for not showing more pictures, but I'm finally catching up. Here's a few things that I've put together around the house this week, and I promise more to come!

We're Engaged!!!

Sorry for the brief absence, but my weekend was crazy, because I got engaged! I must say, I was completely surprised. I knew he had been looking for a ring, but I though it was still a ways away. What a wonderful way to start my holiday season! The only downfall, I've hardly been able to sleep, due to an overactive brain. Yawn! Unfortunately, I took the ring it to get it sized yesterday without taking a picture. Soon to follow. Hope you all had a great weekend too!

Holiday Apothecary Jars

I came across a set of three apothecary jars at Ross the other day and just couldn't pass them up! I have been seeing them everywhere, and have been dying to buy some of my own. From holding sweet treats and garnishes, to ornaments and knick knacks, they make the perfect addition to any room. I love that with a simple change of contents, they can flow from one holiday/season to the next. Here are some fabulous ideas for this holiday season....

Sugar Skull Ornaments

I have a total adoration for sugar skulls. My love for them is not limited to Dia de los Muertos, but year round skull fun. I always find myself drawn to them in funky little stores here in the states, as well as during my travels down south. Since my house is largely inspired by my travels, I thought, why not have a colorful sugar skull filled tree? I proposed the idea to Keith last night. Not only did he like the idea, but he started researching ways to make my very own! I love him! Searching for inspiration, I came across these images of wonderful examples...

Happy Turkey Day

My week is super short this week. Got back from Ren Fest yesterday afternoon, and I'm leaving for Dallas this evening. We will be spending Thanksgiving with Keith's family, then we will head back to Austin, where I will drop him off and drive to Plantersville for my final weekend of Ren Fest. I promise to return next week, with some fun stuff. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and see you back here soon.

Fashion Week: Champagne Under the Stars

Wrapping up fashion week at The Gypsie Trunk, I'm finishing it up with champagne under the stars. Two more romantic holiday styles that I just can't get enough of. Two of my favorite pieces that I own are a ruffle front, sheer, black and white star print blouse, and a pair of Steve Madden, champagne glitter, platform pumps that my friend gave me for my birthday. Love. My only regret is that I don't have enough occasions to bust out those dazzling heels. In any case, here is the final affordable holiday wish list....

Fashion Week: Puttin' On The Glitz

Back on the flashy trend, something about black and sequins speaks to me. I feel that this combination shows a sophisticated and chic sense of style, with a splash of sparkle. Perfect for a holiday parties, New Year's Eve, or for the everyday fashionista. I have a black sequin tank that I love to throw on over a great pair of jeans and some sexy heels for a night on the town. It's a great way to dress up a more casual outfit, or to go all out glam. Here are my current affordable favorites...

Fashion Week: All That Glitters Is Gold

I have decided to devote this week to fashion. I am feeling the distinct desire to take my recent Ren Faire earnings and run to the stores to snag my current fashion cravings. I will, however, be good and only make one or two purchases. A girl can dream, can't she? And make wish lists.

As the weather teases with thoughts of cold weather and holiday cheer, my thoughts turn to seasonal fashion. Winter is the time of year when sparkle rules the world. Women pull out all the stops, and all of the gilded, glittery, and sparkly things that have been hiding in the back of the closet, waiting for that first chill in the air. I must say that I absolutely love some flashy fashion when it turns cold, and with it creeping upon me, here is my affordable winter wish list this year...

Movemeber Mugs

Formerly November, Movember is mustache growing month to raise awareness and money for men's health. Being that my sex makes it difficult (and unsightly) to grow a 'stache, I have decided to show my support in another way. I had a set of four plain white coffee cups leftover from some of my previous projects, and decided to paint some rockin' mustaches on them. My 'stache of choice.....the Fu Man Chu.

Beauties With Bed Head

I am feeling inspired by the ever-fabulous Miss Brigitte Bardot and her oh-so-seductive bedroom hair. She remains one of the sexiest women in history, and seemed to always have perfectly mussed come-hither hair. From the days of curlers, pins, curling irons, and hairsprays that would cause the earth to shudder, came the bombshells that still inspire women, and get men's engines revving. From the ranks of the mind blowingly beautiful, here are some our favorites sporting some sexy bed head.

Mapping Out A Design

Maps may serve a bevy of functions, the least of which is not guiding lost souls to their desired destination. Additionally, they can make a handsome addition to the design aesthetic of any room. Since our travels have been put on pause, I have gained a fascination with maps. Perhaps, because I am no longer pouring over them searching for our next destination. After a year and a half of staring at them, my life seems a little less without.

In order to satiate the need to look over them again, I have decided to incorporate maps into the decor of our house. Beside conventional and basic framing, there are numerous ways to creatively display and use them.

Decorating With Antlers

via Crizmac

I am getting ready to leave for the weekend, but I didn't want to leave without one last post for the week. Lately I have had a bit of a fascination with antlers. In my routine blog following, I've seen numerous chic, and a few quirky homes, that have used antlers in their design. Some have even been home made. We had a colorful deer head mask that we bought while we were living in Guatemala, then I found a wooden pair at Goodwill last month, and I just found a real pair at Goodwill last weekend. Three officially makes it a collection, so now the trouble is deciding how to display them. Here are some inspirational ideas I found.

Pillow Talk

Living in rental properties can make decorating a challenge at times. We decided to take the plunge with our last apartment, and paint the walls bold shades of Central American inspired colors. I adored the overall effect, but loathed the priming processed that was required of us before moving out. With our new home (a much larger, two story, duplex) we are choosing to keep a neutral base (white walls, wood floors, and beige carpet), and accenting it with bright pops of color. We have a beige and brown couch, and have just purchased two sitting chairs, which will be re-covered with a green and white/beige printed fabric. To add color, and am looking for brightly colored throw pillows to tie in the blues, greens, oranges, and purples, scattered throughout the living room. With a little Etsy research, I've found some wonderful pillows that are just what the doctor ordered.

Blog Love

A big thanks to Michelle over at Trash to Treasure Decorating for giving some major blog love my way for Friend Friday. She featured my Pallet Coffee Table and had kind words about the project. I absolutely love my coffee table and am thrilled that someone else does too. Thanks again Michelle!

Pretty Pumpkins

I feel like I've been such a slacker this week. Leaving town every weekend makes my week incredibly short, thus having less time to accomplish the tasks at hand. I hope you all can forgive me. Here is one last Halloween post for you all to enjoy. Check out these super stylish gourds, and hope you have a spooktacular weekend!

Wardrobe Envy: Nicole Richie

From her perfectly effortless strands to her chic pedi, the girls has it down to a science. A far cry from her early days of celebrity, Nicole has found the exact equation for mixing a little boho with a little glamor, to create her hip signature style. I believe that one of my other fave fashionistas (Rachel Zoe) can be credited with being the catalyst for this transformation, but the girl has taken it and run. Even throughout her burgeoning pregnancies, Nicole remained perfectly put together. Girls around the world look to her for style cues, and can find a treasure trove of stylish gems to mimic.

Halloween Costume

With TRF going on, constantly working on my house, and now being sick, I've not had one nanosecond to think about what I would like to be for Halloween. Historically, it has been my favorite holiday, but I have just been so preoccupied with other things that there has been no time to wrap my brain around it. Putting myself on house arrest today, so as not to become more sick, I am command myself to sit and decide what to wear. If it could manage to somehow work with Renaissance during the day, and transfer into evening, that would be just divine. This aspect actually has me thinking in strange directions. Here's where my brain is wandering...

Fall Tablescape Decorating

Continuing with the autumn decorating theme, today we move on to tablescapes and entertaining. This is the perfect season for gathering with friends and love ones to share happiness, warms, love, food, and drink. I love to entertain, and have far too few opportunities to do so. However, we still have yet to have a housewarming party, and I'm thinking that this may be the perfect excuse to really go all out and invite some friends over. Here are some inspirational tables, hand picked by yours truly, to get your motors running this fall....
