Weekend Whimsy

I hope you all have something great to do this weekend, be it hanging out water-side, or just relaxing on the couch after a long week at work. I am packing up for another Saturday selling my goodies on SoCo. If you're going to be downtown today, stop in and say hi! We'll be set up in the lot next to Vespaio. Happy Weekend!

San Bartolo Mural Bag

{via}
Upon request from my fabulous friend, I have painted a new bag featuring art from the San Bartolo mural in Petén, Guatemala. I found some helpful renderings online and to use a guidelines while working on this project. I chose the fun leopard print in order to create a Mayan theme with a modern twist. You can pick up these adorable bags at your local Hobby Lobby, as well as fabric paint to create your own modern masterpiece. What do you think?

Weekend Whimsy: Craft Booth Saturday

I gave the SoCo art scene another go this weekend, setting up another booth, but with more variety this time around. Last Sunday I limited myself to my salvaged ceramics. This weekend I included my most popular sellers, my hair accessories, a few clutches I painted, and my dream catchers. Here's how it all came together...

Things I Love From Etsy: Mayan Madness

Lately I've been working on so many Mayan themed crafts for Natasha's Christmas presents, I've have begun to develop a bit of Maya fever. Mayan Madness, if you will. While browsing around Etsy for some new wonderful things, I was inspired to create a Mayan Madness Treasury, full of wares inspired by this ancient and fascinating culture. Take a second to check it out and let me know what you think. If you like, browse around the site, and you will see the boundless array of unique handcrafted and vintage items. This is one of my favorite sites for gift shopping, as well as selling. My two shops are GypsieGems and TheGypsieTrunk. Poke in and browse around. There is much more coming soon! Hope you're having a great weekend!

Weekend Whimsy: Craft Booth

Never in my life did I imagine that I would be a housewife. Well, I'm not exactly a wife. Or cooking and cleaning all day. But I am being supported by my adoring boyfriend while I act out my dream of being a not so starving artist. I've been jobless for about a month now and spend my days crafting from sun up till sun down. I've put myself on a daily routine of blogging, searching out inspiration, crafting, and social networking to get my name and product on the digital map.  I've been churning out everything from painted clutches and salvages ceramics, to hair accessories, and dream catchers. I've held my first trunk show at my home for my friends, and set up a booth last Sunday downtown with my ceramics. I will be setting up again tomorrow, but with a more eclectic variety of wares. I have high hopes and positive feelings about tomorrow. For now, here's a peek at my setup from last weekend, and I hope you all have a wonderfully whimsical weekend.

Things I Love From Etsy: Light As A Feather, Stiff As A Board

Today I'm feeling a little contradictory. So, in light of this fact, I have created a lovely Treasury of items called Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board on Etsy. It features many objects that incorporate feathers into their aesthetic via the use of actual feathers, photography, painting, and more. Butterflies, dream catchers, pillows, blocks, and headboards are a few pieces that make up this assemblage of contrasting items. Take a second to stop in and take a gander, and let me know what you think.

Chic Picnic

Tonight we are heading to the Blues on the Green, a weekly free summer concert series at Zilker park, featuring various blues artists from week to week. I have prepared a light chicken pasta salad for the occasion, and cut up watermelon for dessert, which I have put in the freezer to keep it deliciously chilled until it is time to enjoy it, as well as a fresh white sangria with frozen grapes in place of ice to keep it cool. As I am gathering a blanket, pillows, cups, and utensils, I am thinking of how lovely it would be to put together a chic picnic for a few close friends, or a destination picnic with that special someone. What is your ideal picnic like? Here are a few fabulously inspirational picnics to get you in the mood.

DIY Leopard Print Cup and Saucers

I've been on a ceramic painting kick lately, and I scooped up another great batch of salvaged goodies from a great thrift store, including these adorable cups and saucers. When I saw the golden brown color, I immediately thought of leopard print for the updated look. I love taking someone else's junk and turning it into little Gypsie treasures. And what a great way to recycle and be eco friendly! I am so pleased with the results! They turned out even better than I imagined. What do you think?

Weekend Whimsy

This picture is from one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been to and one of the places I was most happy while backpacking. It's a little area called Punta Uva outside of Puerto Viejo. We packed a lunch, hitch hiked there with an extremely nice man and his family, spent the day lounging in our hammock and trying to catch lobsters. It was an amazing day that I will never forget. What was one of your happiest days?

Eclectic Homes

Our lease is ending soon, and we are now in search of a new apartment. I know that many of you are saying, I thought you loved your apartment, and you are correct, we did. However, our neighbors have become less than bearable, having small children that seem to have boundless energy and whose tiny pattering feet disturb us at all hours of the day. Thus, we are now in search of a new abode. In all honesty, we are extremely excited about the prospect of finding some funky new digs. A fresh start, possibly a little more room for my crafting, and maybe even a garage to expand my creative empire. In my giddiness, I have begun browsing inspirational homes, and found this lovely lair in Elle Decor. This Moroccan gem is delightfully eclectic with colorful local accents that make it coveted by those near and far. See for yourself.

Who wouldn't love to live in this fabulous fortress? I, for one, am incredibly envious. What kind of home inspires you? To see the full story, click here.

Happy Fourth of July Weekend

Picture via Scrink.com
Happy Fourth of July weekend to all of you! I am packing up to head to the lake for the weekend. Everything is so dry, and there have been numerous fires in the area, that we are not sure if the annual fireworks display will be set off this year.

Fear not! I have a contingency plan! I found a local equipment rental place, borrowed a projector for the weekend, and downloaded some footage of firework displays to ensure that we will get the show that we so love to see this time each year. And just for fun we bought Independence Day, Sand Lot, and movie popcorn for some good ol' fashion backyard movie fun. I can't wait! I can't take all of the credit for this idea. I was inspired by Design Sponge. If you would like to see where I got my inspiration and get some more great ideas for an outdoor movie night look here. Have a great weekend!
