Gallery Walls

I began seeing this everywhere and quickly became obsessed. I love idea of mismatched, slightly discombobulated, seemingly random, items somehow coming together to make a lovely ornamental art piece. I've seen varieties containing photographs, paintings, plates, prints, and anything else the imagination can dream up. I've begun creating a few of my own in various niches of our house, but they aren't quite complete, so I will resist showing pictures of them right now. For now, I will leave you with images of other inspiring wall art.

Pallet Coffee Table

I cannot tell you how excited I am to finally show you this finished project! I have been dreaming about this for so long, and to see it completed is such a dream come true. After some convincing, Keith snagged a few pallets for me and I wasted no time getting started.

I used the blue paint from the old apartment.

I wanted to do some green detailing but painted over it in the end.

We wanted to top it with a large piece of glass, but decided it would be cheaper to pull apart another pallet and make one solid piece.

We stacked the solid pallet on top of an empty pallet frame, painted, and added casters.

And for this finished project...

I am absolutely in love with this! This spaces around the sides are perfect for storing DVDs, magazines, books, etc. We are thinking of adding in one more pallet to make it a little taller, but it's so wonderful the way it is now. What do you think?

Plate Rack Turned Purse Rack

I picked up a few of these while we were living in the old apartment, but I never found a specific use for this particular one however. I quickly found purpose for it here in the new house as a purse/coat hanger along the base of the stairs in the entryway. As always, I had to give it a fresh coat of paint to dress it up, ...

distressed it a bit, ...

and voila! A shiny new rack for my things!

Delightful Dining

I have my wonderful table that I adore, and which suffered some damage during the move, but now I need some chairs to go with it. I have two, but Keith is not crazy about them. I love the idea of mismatched or different colored chairs, but I need a more specific idea of what I want. Well, it would be ideal anyway. I have a feeling I'll just be hitting up my neighborhood Goodwill, taking what I can find. In any case, here are a few dining sets that I am loving.

Mismatched chair in the same color from APARTMENT THERAPY.
I still adore these I found on PAINT IT WHAT I TELL YOU.
This makes me wish I had an oblong table, from MANOLO FOR THE HOME.
I love bringing the outdoors in, via THIS IS GLAMOROUS.
It is done to chic perfection at Loftenberg.
And who could forget this famous table, via WORLEY HOUSE.

Painting My Honey Pot

About a year ago Keith and I made a visit to his brother out of state. While there, I noticed that he had a honey pot. A honey pot! I had never seen one outside of Winnie the Pooh, and was charmed immediately. I wanted one. I guess Keith remembered how enamored I had been with the little bauble, and purchased one for me. Of course I was incapable of leaving it plain white, as it had come. A few months later, I have finally gotten around to decorating the trinket and here it is...

Chandelier Makeover

Having just moved into our new place, it is filled (of course) with basic ugly fixtures. Our dining room chandelier is no exception. It is a plain, cheap, gold mess, that is in desperate need of a face lift. I would like to find a way to dress it up in stead of replacing it. I was thinking of spray painting it a brass color, or something else that might not be so noticeable when we move out. I don't want to do anything that I could be charged for, but I suppose it wouldn't be so bad if it meant not having to look at it in its current state for the next year or so. Here are a few inspiring DIY makeovers from other creative minds...

I think this last one is going to by my project of choice. Keith just cut down a huge hanging branch from one of the trees in our backyard. I can cut off the smaller branches, wire them together with floral wire, and spray paint the whole thing. I might even be able to get it done this week. I'll show you all as soon as it is finished.

Wardrobe Envy: Rachel Zoe

Naturally, as a stylist, Zoe has access to all of the latest and most desirable fashions. However, it's her impeccable taste in vintage, and her impressive collection of these unique finds, that truly leave me green with envy. Not only does she have a awe inspiring collection of incredible pieces, but her way of mixing classic, modern, disco, and boho, to create her signature style, leaves many of us scouring our own wardrobes trying to emulate that same wicked approach to dressing. To live a day in her "tranny shoes," and browse the racks of clothes that she possesses, would be a day in paradise for me.

Plate Gallery Wall

I've been seeing this all over the place, and I think it's a totally charming way to dress up your walls. You can hit up your local thrift store, or even a department store (if you have more discerning taste), and pick up some adorably mismatched table ware to create your very own wall art. To hang them, you can go to your local hardware store and pick up some peel-and-stick disc hangers, or traditional wire ones if you prefer. You can find these china charmers in any color, size, shape, or pattern. So, whatever your taste, there is something out there for you! Niki at World In A Paper Cup gathered this cute plate montage as a great example. Would you use plates to decorate?

Repurposed Pallets

Today I am making a trip to Home Depot to pick up some wheels for my latest DIY. Keith thinks I'm absolutely insane, because lately I have become obsessed with pallets. I told him that he should stop to pick up any that he's sees along the side of the road, and have even begged him to stop while driving. I've actually begun making my own coffee table out of one, and can't wait to finish it so that I can reveal it here! I've come across so many fascinating ways to reuse these discarded treasures, that want to recreate them all! It never ceases to amaze me just how creative some people can be. What wonderful ways to turn something ugly and useless into something fabulous. Would you decorate your home with pallets?
